Morning Star Freewill Baptist Church was organized on Buckman Street north of 21st Street. Some of the charter members were Deacon Alex and Sarah McCoy, Deacon John and Sister Martha Bell, Deacon Phillip and Sister Julia Franklin, Deacon Archie and Sister Katie Dasher, Deacon Cleotus Garner, and Sister Ella Tyson.
The original Morning Star Freewill Baptist Church building was destroyed by The Great Fire of Jacksonville in 1901.
Morning Star Freewill Baptist Church was reorganized in 1905 under the direction of the Almighty God and the leadership of Rev J.D. Tyson, Rev. Ben Hobbs, Rev. Bill Edmondson, Rev. Sam Edmondson, Rev. King, and others.
Later the church was relocated to its present location, 1528 East 20th Street Jacksonville, Florida 32206. Under the leadership of Rev. Jake Dasher and Rev. Gillyard the cornerstone was laid.
On October 15, 2019, Morning Star ended a two year search, when the church unanimously called Elder David L. Brown, a young man from Chicago, who had recently located to Jacksonville, Florida, as our next Pastor. God has blessed Morning Star with an under shepherd who exhibits God’s love from his heart and teaches the Word of God expositorily from the Bible. We rejoice in the work that God has yet to reveal to us, as Pastor Brown writes the next chapter in Morning Star’s history. Pastor Brown truly believes that “Our Dreams are Greater than our Memories.”
Morning Star is a Bible-believing, Bible- teaching, Bible-preaching, Christ-centered church. Our church is one (undivided), holy in call and in life. In God's Word, we are taught to walk by faith and not by sight. We believe that without faith it is impossible to please God.
We are a friendly church, where the Gospel is truly taught and preached. People of all denominations are encouraged and invited to attend. No type or class of person is excluded from our church. We are a church where everyone can worship in Spirit and Truth.
We are a caring, loving fellowship of baptized believers in Jesus Christ. A Church that cares for people. We have an outward or missionary ministry that is a sign and example of the Kingdom of God and the unity of humankind.
People can bring their Bibles and grow in grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The King James Version Bible is the foundation of our belief. We preach the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. At Morning Star communion is rightly administered and the church discipline is upheld.
